So to finish my introductory story, we go into my husband's response to the pregnancy. Let me remind you that he was the one who talked me out of having a baby, so you can pretty much guess what his response was going to be...
I called my husband and left him a message when he was at work. I told him that I was 3 days late and decided to take a test and to call me when he got a break so I could tell him positive or negative. By the time he called I was outside with my parent's doing farm chores. I answered and put the phone on speaker. (hehehe) I told him the news and got nothing. Finally he asked if this was joke. When I reassured him it wasn't, he then asked "Well then who's the father?!"
Pause for reaction...
Of course my dad hears this and you would think a father would be outraged when his son in law question's his daughter's loyalty. But not my dad. He burst out laughing. Which of course when I think about it now, it is rather hilarious. I talk it out with my husband a little more (off speaker phone at this point) and he hangs up because he has to get back to work. Five minutes later he calls me again and apologizes for his initial reaction. Apparently a coworker overheard our conversation and smacked him upside the head when he asked who the father was. (Go coworker!) He promised me he was happy, but he wasn't ready to be a dad yet.
It wasn't until we found out I was having a girl that he started to get really excited. He couldn't wait for her to get here! We decided we wanted to find out with our closest friends and family what our little baby was going to be. The ultrasound tech told us when to look away and put the results in an envelope that we gave to a bakery. They were to color the inside of the cake pink for girl or blue for boy, so when we cut the cake the gender would be revealed. We had to wait an entire week, but it was so much fun having everyone there and Skype-ing those who were out of state.
That is just the beginning of my journey to motherhood. As I get into the groove of writing again I will post more on my pregnancy as well as labor and delivery!
xoxo
Donna
