Eleina's recipes of the month

So after an incredibly busy last few days, I am finally able to sit down and get things done on the computer!  I am very excited to share some of Eleina's favorite homemade purees with you!

First, let me tell you about how I steam and puree her meals.
I have the Cuisinart Baby.  It is AUH-MAZ-ING.  It steams and purees all in one place.  I found mine on Amazon.  It is definitely possible to steam your fruits or veggies any other way you choose and to use a food processor to puree.

Mango and Papaya

1 ripe mango peeled, pitted, and sliced
1/2 ripe papaya with seeds removed cut into 1 inch cubes

Because Eleina is 9 months old, there is no need for me to steam the mango or papaya because she can handle the texture.  If your babe is under 8 months, I recommend steaming first so they puree smoothly.  If your babe is older than 8 months, you can put your chopped fruit into a food processor.  Pulse a few times to break up the big chunks, then hold for a few seconds until you get the desired consistency.
When it is finished, pour into baby food containers or ice cube tray to freeze and store.  I always leave one in the refrigerator so the heating time is less for a quick lunch.

Kale with Pineapple and Mango

3-5 kale leaves pulled from stems
1-2 one inch slice of pineapple peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
1 ripe mango peeled, pitted, and sliced

Steam the kale until soft. In a food processor, add the kale, pineapple, and mango.  Again, because Eleina is 9 months, I don't steam the fruit, but if you require a smoother puree, steam the fruit with the kale.  Pulse the food processor to break up big chunks, then hold for a few seconds until you get the desired consistency.
When it is finished, pour into baby food containers or ice cube tray to freeze and store.

 Blueberry Applesauce

1 cup of blueberries
1 jonagold apple peeled, cored, and cut into 1 inch cubes

Steam blueberries and apples together.  (You don' HAVE to use a jonagold apple.  I like them because they are the perfect amount of sweetness and they are soft, but not too soft.) Put the fruit into the food processor.  Pulse the food processor to break up big chunks, then hold for a few seconds until you get the desired consistency.
When it is finished, pour into baby food containers or ice cube tray to freeze and store.

I hope your little ones enjoy these meals as much as Eleina does!  Every month I will be posting any new recipes I make for little miss so your babes can try them too!  Let me know what they think!

xoxo, Donna

  1. I don't have babies anymore, but these look so nutritious I'm thinking of some ways they could be served to older kids and adults, maybe in a smoothie or something like that. Yum! :0) - Michelle
